The key factor that separates styles here is altitude: this inland region has a continental climate, and its vineyards span a broad range of elevations, directly shaping freshness, structure, and body.

The three sub-regions entitled to the Trás-os-Montes DOC designation are Chaves, Planalto Mirandês, and Valpaços.
