Quartzo 2021 White Wine

Quartzo White Wine is a remarkable white wine from the Portalegre sub-region in the Alentejo. This distinctive wine comes from centuries-old vineyards located at high altitudes (between 550 and 735 metres) with granite soils rich in quartz, which gives it a unique minerality. It is a field blend of multiple old white grape varieties, vinified naturally and aged in old barrels or cement vats.

In its tasting notes, Quartzo Branco is characterised by an intense aroma with mineral and smoky notes, evoking ripe orange and tangerine, with citrus and floral nuances. On the palate, it is fresh and elegant, with a fine texture, full-bodied but smooth and enveloping, where the ripe citrus fruits stand out. The finish is soft and spicy, with remarkable persistence. Its quality is widely recognised, having achieved 18 points in Vinho Grandes Escolhas in some vintages.

In February 2009, João Afonso and his family acquired a small farm of 6 hectares in the Natural Park of Serra de S. Mamede. It is located in the amphitheater of the village of Reguengo at an altitude of 600 meters, looking south and Alentejo at lose sight of The property has 3.9 hectares of very old vineyard (in 1932 already existed) divided between plots of white grapes (16) and paints (12), all mixed and consociated with olive groves (which does not allow Alentejo DOC wine production) .

Biodiversity and ecology are the engines of the project: the current type of agriculture is organic (Ecocert certification) and the aim is to practice biodynamic agriculture at 100% in the next 3 years. All agricultural work - in the treatment and maintenance of soils and plants - is manual.
