Vira Cabeças 2019 Red Wine

Vira Cabeças Red Wine is a unique red wine from the Alentejo, from old vines in the Serra de São Mamede, Portalegre, and is a field blend of multiple red grape varieties vinified with minimal intervention. In its tasting notes, it has a deep ruby or translucent colour and a light, aromatic nose with notes of bush, field herbs, spice and black fruit. On the palate, it is smooth and polished, with a fine texture, red fruit and vibrant acidity, culminating in a long, fresh finish that authentically reflects its mountain terroir.

Made from several small centuries-old vineyards located in Reguengo parish, in the Serra de S. Mamede Natural Park (Portalegre). The altitudes of the vineyards range from 550 to 735 meters. The soil is very old granite (Ordovician). The productions are very low.

In February 2009, João Afonso and his family acquired a small farm of 6 hectares in the Natural Park of Serra de S. Mamede. It is located in the amphitheater of the village of Reguengo at an altitude of 600 meters, looking south and Alentejo at lose sight of The property has 3.9 hectares of very old vineyard (in 1932 already existed) divided between plots of white grapes (16) and paints (12), all mixed and consociated with olive groves (which does not allow Alentejo DOC wine production) .

Biodiversity and ecology are the engines of the project: the current type of agriculture is organic (Ecocert certification) and the aim is to practice biodynamic agriculture at 100% in the next 3 years. All agricultural work - in the treatment and maintenance of soils and plants - is manual.

Monte Branco Vinhas Velhas White Wine is an unusual combination of grape varieties, but it works excellently in this wine full of notes of flint, fresh herbs, lemon and orange peel, with a slight bitterness that gives it flavour. Dry and austere, persistent, with plenty of potential to grow in the bottle too.

Vinha do Lado Red Wine presents intense colour, with aromas of jam, ripe fruit, truffles and vanilla. On the palate it has good acidity, soft but firm tannins and a long finish.

The grapes are destemmed and carefully selected at the hand-picking table. After crushing, they are trodden in marble presses using the traditional foot treading method. Transfer to stainless steel vats where the alcoholic fermentation finishes. This is followed by 12 days of post-fermentation maceration.
