The beginning of winemaking practices in the Dão region is lost in the memory of the times, and the remote indications of these works are all too evident. "Lagaricas" or "Lagaretas", depressions excavated in the rock, used in the extraction of the grape juice, are the paradigm of these ancestral vestiges. In the letter of Couto of the Monastery of Lorvão, from the year 1183, "Sabugosam" is one of its villages referenced, and already in that Monastery is much appreciated, the wine of that term. According to what was said by the son of the previous owner of the Quinta, the wine supply to the Portuguese Embassy in the United States of America in the 1940s, by express indication of the then ambassador Dr. Pedro Teotónio Pereira, was made from the wine produced at Quinta das Camélias, the respective barrels being sealed with the seal of the Embassy.
