The five best green wines (Vinhos Verdes) of 2018 are Quinta de Linhares Azal, Quinta da Raza Colheita Seleccionada Avesso, Casal de Ventozela Loureiro and two alvarinhos of Quinta do Regueiro.
The election of the best green wines is an annual initiative of the Vinhos Verdes Winemaking Commission (CVRVV) and this year's winners, elected from more than 280 competitors, were known during a gala dinner held at the cruise terminal, in Matosinhos.
Winning wines received the "Best of" awards, the main category of this competition, and were chosen by "a jury composed of guests from nine countries," according to the CVRVV.
Since 2009, the CVRVV has included the "Best of" category in the Best Greens Contest, aimed at promoting a "Top 5" target for greater international promotion and promotion.
The Quinta do Regueiro wines are from the Monção and Melgaço sub-region, while the Quinta da Linhares is produced in a farm located in Penafiel, Quinta da Raza is made from grapes from the Basto sub-region and Casal de Ventozela and Ave Valley.
The jury of this competition distinguished with 13 gold wines, and among these winners are two more Casal de Ventozela, one of the laurel variety and another alvarinho.
The remaining distinguished with gold are the Quinta D'Amares Superior, Pluma rosé, Portal do Fidalgo Alvarinho, Quinta da Levada Azal, Quinta da Lixa Trajadura, two wines of the Casa de Vilacetinho, Tapada dos Monges of the casta ink vinhao, sparkling Muralhas of Monção and a brandy Delícia.
The entries in the contest are increasing each edition, synonymous with a more competitive Region, geared towards growth and presence in different markets.
