Paulo Coutinho was born in the village of Celeirós, near Quinta do Portal.
It has been there since 1994, the year in which the company started with the commercialization of Port wine and the production of Douro and Moscatel wines. His first harvest, when he was only 14 years old, had happened ten years earlier at Sandeman, where he acquired the knowledge and art of producing Port wine. There he still made eight more vintages, surrounded by vineyards and wine on all sides. It is not surprising, therefore, that he opted for a degree in oenology at the University of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro, and then he completed a more than one year internship in a well-known sparkling wine producer, Raposeira Caves, Douro.
Shortly afterwards he went to work exclusively for Quinta do Portal, where he helped in the development and growth of the company, creating a very own philosophy in the elaboration of wines that have achieved good distinctions for the producer. The idea is to continue there, but has in mind new projects that, among other things, pass through organic wine.
