Caracol Fazendas da Areia 2022 White Wine

Caracol Fazendas da Areia White Wine presents crystal clear straw yellow color. Intense nose, notes of citrus fruit, orange peel with some iodine and gunpowder. Fresh, textured, unctuous attack, concentration in the middle of the tasting, good freshness and persistence.

An Atlantic wine from limestone soils that calls for pairing with seafood such as scallops, clams, hard-shell clams, which in their preparation include warm flavours such as semi-fatty fish with some intensity.

Caracol is a traditional grape variety on the island of Porto Santo. There are various stories and myths about its potential origin, such as that it was a Mr. Caracol who brought it here and planted it.

Tinta Negra grape variety is part of the ancient spirit of Madeira Island and is still the basis for the wines that have made the island famous. Outside Madeira Island, it is a rare grape variety that can only be found in regions where the sea is close by, taking on another name such as Molar in Colares, where it is practically extinct, Saborinho in the Azores, which is in the process of recovery, and the Canaries, where it takes on the name of TintaBastardo where it has very little expression. Not to be confused with Bastardo (aka Trosseau), its half-sister.

Visually, Cossart Gordon Sercial Vintage 1985 displays a golden topaz colour with old-gold reflections. On the nose, expect aromas of exotic smoky wood, very old brandy, and warming spices. Its palate is dry and fresh with razor-sharp acidity and a long, lingering finish featuring walnuts, aged brandy, and balsamic notes. A wine of purity and character, it’s best enjoyed as a contemplative experience—alone or paired with light desserts, nuts, or fine cheeses
