This fortified wine dates back to the 14th century and reached its golden period by the laborious hands and sharp mind of Sebastião José de Carvalho e Melo - Marquês de Pombal and Conde de Oeiras. Carcavelos' wine ran the world. It entered the most varied cultures. It has even given part of its 'soul' to Port wine in order to give it a 'body' and a superior taste. From this fertile and auspicious period, it fell to levels that without the intervention of the municipality was expected to cease to exist.

It took hold and recovered and today, the vineyard continues to produce, on the hillside facing the Tejo, in the land that has always been fertile, shaken by the wind that is typical of us, the grape varieties. In the white, Galego Dourado, the Ratinho, the Arinto, the Rabo-de-Ovelha and the Seara-Nova; in the red, the perfect combination between the castes Castelão, Amostrinha and Trincadeira. Grapes that mixed in the exact measure, like alchemy, gives origin to our generous.

Wine appears in the Ramilo family by the hand of the great-grandfather, Manuel Francisco Ramilo, who, in the early twentieth century, devoted much of its land area to wine production. Four generations later, unwilling to accept the abandonment of local traditions, brothers Pedro and Nuno Ramilo left their confortable lives to embrace a family business. The brothers are now on the verge of becoming the largest private producer of the world famous Ramisco from Colares
