Luís Duarte is part of the first undergraduate group in oenology at the University of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro - a course created in 1989 -, thus integrating a pioneering generation of Portuguese winemakers. A recent graduate, at the age of 21, she joined the team that designed the Herdade do Esporão project in Alentejo, drawing attention to her enormous talent. In the early 2000s, he also acted as an oenologist-consultant in this region that was emerging for the Olympus of Portuguese wines. Helped to conceive the reds and whites of Quinta do Mouro and Herdade da Malhadinha Nova and, since 2002, has accumulated the function of director general of Herdade dos Grous.

Acclaimed several times as one of the best winemakers in Portugal - in the "Winemaker of the Year" competition, which had already won twice in the Wine Magazine award (in 1997) In 2010 he was nominated for the World's Best Winemaker award in the German magazine "Der Feinschemecker" - Luís Duarte also invested in his own project, the Quinta da Gama - a proposal launched by his Brazil. A little more than a decade ago, from the vineyards around her house, grapes were harvested to make up the first Girl from Quinta Colheita (vintage 2004), which in a short time was consecrated as an excellent "best buy" by the specialized press . The portfolio grew, incorporating the Girl from the Quinta Reserva, whose inaugural harvest (2008) earned no less than 94 points from Wine Enthusiast magazine, ranking 11th among the top 100 wines of 2010. The Quinta Select Young Girl and the Girl from White and rosé farm complements the line. The latest stars in Luís Duarte's personal portfolio are the red and white Rubrica - both classified as "highly recommended" in all vintages evaluated by Wine Enthusiast.
