It is not the first time that this Vinho Verde DOC receives distinctions and good scores. This time, the Nostalgia 10 Barricas Alvarinho 2015, from the producer Lua Cheia in Vinhas Velhas, collects the Vinho Verde Trophy in the International Wine Challenge 2018 competition.
It is known as one of the most rigorous international competitions. In the meticulous evaluation process, each wine in the contest is blindly analyzed by at least ten jurors at three different times. The style, the region and the harvest are evaluated.
The wine Nostalgia 10 Barricas 2015, from the producer Lua Cheia in Vinhas Velhas, won the Vinho Verde trophy. "A convincing and exciting Green Wine with elegant aromas, a finely creamy structure, a good freshness and a long, pleasant and appetizing finish", reads the note of the International Wine Challenge.
The producer Lua Cheia in Vinhas Velhas has increasingly bet on its range of wines from the Vinho Verde Region. "We have tried to produce genuinely minhotos wines, with force and irreverence, but at the same time of easy treatment and light," explains the winemaker Francisco Baptista.
The Lua Cheia in Vinhas Velhas is a result of the passionate connection that its founders have had with the Douro for more than two decades. After so many years to be surprised by this unique wine region, in 2009 it was time to show how they saw Douro wines.
The company's history begins this year, with white wines from Murça - a zone forgotten by progress, but which produces unique wines full of identity.
In 2010, an investment was started in the winery in Martim, Douro, and in 2012, in the region of Alvarinho, Monção. In 2013, a partnership was also started in the Alentejo, and the grapes chosen and purchased in the region of Estremoz were vinified in third-party facilities.
The purpose of the Full Moon in Old Vines is to make wines that show the essence of each region where it produces and, using Old World teachings, to discover and let express the terroir.
