<p></p><p>Quinta da Pacheca is one of the best known estates in the Douro region and also one of the first properties to bottle wine under its own label. It is first mentioned in a document dated April 1738 but it was only in 1903, when Dom José Freire de Serpa Pimentel decided to develop his interest in oenology, began to seriously dedicate himself to the risky business of winemaking. <p></p><p>The winemakers Anselmo Mendes and Diogo Fonseca Lopes present, after a two-year break, the Magma and Muros de Magma wines, both of the Verdelho variety, resuming a project that began in 2011. This wine is produced in Biscoitos, the only demarcated wine production area in Terceira Island, Azores, appearing as a product with unique characteristics worldwide.</p>

Therefore they started storing as much Madeira Wine as possible, letting it slowly mature inside the barrels for future generations to be able to enjoy it further. For that reason, D’Oliveiras is the only Madeira Wine company that owns Madeira Wine bottles and Barrels from as far as the 1850’s that can still be commercially purchased.</p>
<p></p><p>Barbeito & Niepoort Os Mestres</p> <p>Blending together grape varieties continues to be a relatively rare practice when it comes to Madeira wine. Ricardo Diogo and Dirk Niepoort tasted the various batches used for this dry “Reserva Especial” directly out of the barrels in one of the “Vinhos Barbeito” winery’s cellars.</p> <p>Notes of star anise, touches of stalkiness from the stems, apricots, macerated fruit, and hints of caramel. Tropical flavours appear on the wine’s pleasantly round but also structured palate. The wine’s crisp acidity leads into a beautifully dry finish.</p>
