<p></p><p>Quinta de São José de Peramanca is located five kilometres from Évora, on National Road 114. The large and traditional house, marked by baroque architecture, and the church of San José adjacent to it facilitate identification. With 34 hectares, the Quinta has in the manor house and in its vineyard its greatest patrimony.</p> <p>As for the peculiar name of the Quinta "Peramanca" (Pedra-Manca), it means "oscillating stone, not very safe", is explained by the existence in the region of large granite stones in oscillating balance. Since Roman times and over the centuries, the surroundings to the west of Évora have been considered as one of the most important regions producing quality wine, and the area has become known as "Terras de Peramanca", given the abundance of these oscillating stones.</p>

The aroma is intensely characteristic: tea and marmalade, candied fruit and dried fruits such as nuts and hazelnuts. On the palate, the wine is soft, sweet and enveloping, with fresh acidity that supports its long retronasal finish evoking fruit cake, honey and brandy. <p></p><p>Vinho da corda was one of the ways in which "liqueurs" were prepared before the arrival of brandy in the mid-17th century. The vines, once planted closer to the sea, were able to reach other degrees of ripeness, allowing for a naturally concentrated must. The technique consisted of first separating the flor wine, which was clearer and fresher, and then, from the last pressing, removing the "vinho da corda" with a more golden and loaded appearance, so fashionable at the time. This Vinho da Corda comes from the sunny vineyards of Porto Santo and shows the island's potential for these rich, authentic and naturally oxidative wines</p>
