Located in Crato, in Portalegre, glued to the slopes of the S. Mamede mountain range of granite soil and embellished with the deer on the loose is born in this Alentejo mountain, a unique place for the production of distinct wines and superior categories.
In 2010, the second vineyard with 4 hectares was planted and the Touriga Nacional, the most important noble variety in Portugal, was chosen. Touriga Nacional has been an "ambassador of our country" due to its ability to adapt to climate change. Also in 2010, Touriga Franca, a breed that originated in France, is very closely associated with the production of generous wines.
Herdade da Rocha reinforces the vineyard plantation in 2011 with Arinto, which is a very versatile variety cultivated in almost all the wine regions due to its good adaptation to all climates. Alvarinho is still planted, considered one of the noblest Portuguese white varieties and produces a wine of marked freshness and of very high quality.
In the village of Crato, in the District of Portalegre, in the Alentejo region and sub-region of the Alto Alentejo, next to the Serra de S. Mamede, a new brand of Portuguese wines is born with freshness and minerality. At Herdade da Rocha, the enology team intends to produce fresher wines with more mineral characteristics that are naturally distinguished from the common Alentejo wines.
Herdade da Rocha launched the first harvest in 2012, bottling a limited series of 1350 bottles. In 2013 were produced wines Couto Saramago Red Wine and Couto Saramago Seleção.
The year 2016 was marked by the launch of white and rosé wines.
