Cartuxa White owes its name to the Carthusian monks who, since 1598, lived a solitary life of prayer at the Scala Coeli Monastery in Évora. First produced in 1986, this DOC Alentejo wine is crafted from Antão Vaz, Arinto, and Roupeiro, grown in the granitic soils of the Fundação Eugénio de Almeida vineyards. It presents freshness, balance, and a distinctive elegance that reflects the terroir of Évora.
After careful harvesting at optimal ripeness, the grapes undergo total destemming, gentle pressing, and fermentation in stainless steel tanks at 16 ºC. Cartuxa White Wine is then aged on fine lees with bâtonnage for nine months, adding richness and complexity. Bright citrus and tropical fruit aromas combine with subtle floral notes and a touch of minerality. On the palate, it is fresh and harmonious, with well-integrated acidity and a smooth, lingering finish. With 13% alcohol, this white is best served at 10–12 ºC and pairs beautifully with seafood, grilled fish, and Mediterranean-inspired dishes.
