It is made from boal, a noble grape variety in years when the quality is high and the harvest is excellent, using grapes from the best vines of Madeira Island.
The founders of D’Oliveiras were visionaries that saw the true value of Madeira Wine: its ability to improve over time. Therefore they started storing as much Madeira Wine as possible, letting it slowly mature inside the barrels for future generations to be able to enjoy it further. For that reason, D’Oliveiras is the only Madeira Wine company that owns Madeira Wine bottles and Barrels from as far as the 1850’s that can still be commercially purchased.

It is in the Douro that the Alves de Sousa family produces their wines, according to a family tradition of 5 generations.
Working only the grapes of the family vineyards (Quinta da Gaivosa, Vale da Raposa, Caldas, Estação, Aveleira and Oliveirinha), developed a complete range of Douro wines of great character and quality.

Alvarinho Pet Nat is a sparkling wine inspired in the ancestral method, a wine with natural movement and elegant bubbling

The vinification process, with little intervention, resorts to the end of the first alcoholic fermentation in bottle, without resorting to dégorgement or sugar addition.

Innovation has led Soalheiro to wines that in the past seemed unlikely to experiment with the Alvarinho grape variety. This Pet Nat confirms the variety’s elasticity and proposes the relaxed discovery of a light and youthful sparkling wine

With an alcohol content of 19% ABV, a residual sugar of 70 g/L, and total acidity of 6.00 g/L (tartaric acid), Cossart Gordon Verdelho 5 Years Old Madeira presents a clear topaz colour with golden hues. On the nose it offers the classic Madeira profile—intense and complex, with dried fruit, wood and spice notes. On the palate it is medium-dry, fresh and assertive, featuring orange peel alongside raisin-like fruit, giving a well-balanced and lingering taste. Served as an aperitif, it also pairs beautifully with soups, game birds, and pâtés, and remains enjoyable for several months once opened.

This Sercial of 1978 was aged by the method of "Canteiro" in old casks of French Carvalho since February of 1979. In February of 2008 I transferred the wine to bottles of 60 liters where it has maintained until today. In this way it was possible to control the rapid concentration that this wine recorded, while it was in the process of aging in the pipes during 29 years, maintaining the balance between the sweetness and the acidity that I believe to be the ideal in this wine.
