<p></p><p>The founders of D’Oliveiras were visionaries that saw the true value of Madeira Wine: its ability to improve over time. Therefore they started storing as much Madeira Wine as possible, letting it slowly mature inside the barrels for future generations to be able to enjoy it further. For that reason, D’Oliveiras is the only Madeira Wine company that owns Madeira Wine bottles and Barrels from as far as the 1850’s that can still be commercially purchased.</p>

<p>In the glass, Cossart Gordon Verdelho Colheita 2008 Verdelho shows a bright topaz colour with golden hues. On the nose, it delivers an expressive bouquet of citrus zest, dried apricots, tropical fruit notes, and subtle oak nuances. The palate is dry, fresh and full-bodied, with crisp acidity balancing the fruit flavours and a long, clean finish. Perfect as an aperitif or paired with lighter seafood and savory dishes, this Madeira offers a modern yet classic expression of Verdelho that rewards both contemplation and enjoyment</p>

<p></p><p>Barbeito & Niepoort Os Mestres</p> <p>Blending together grape varieties continues to be a relatively rare practice when it comes to Madeira wine. Ricardo Diogo and Dirk Niepoort tasted the various batches used for this dry “Reserva Especial” directly out of the barrels in one of the “Vinhos Barbeito” winery’s cellars.</p> <p>Notes of star anise, touches of stalkiness from the stems, apricots, macerated fruit, and hints of caramel. Tropical flavours appear on the wine’s pleasantly round but also structured palate. The wine’s crisp acidity leads into a beautifully dry finish.</p>
