<p></p><p>At Quinta das Carvalhas, Touriga Nacional is the most planted grape varietal, representing 25ha of the total 135ha area of vineyards. We have discovered at Vinha da Cascalheira, one of the Estate’s many terroirs, a small parcel close to the River Torto, which benefits from very poor soils, southern sun exposure, and a specific microclimate, making complex, yet intensely aromatic wines with a very fine character</p>

<p></p><p>H.O Achado is the result of a combination of different plots from H.O's old vineyards, complemented by the Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca and Sousão grape varieties.</p> <p>It is a deep ruby-colored wine. Its aroma is very complex, with notes of forest fruit, sous-bois, black fruit and balsamic freshness. In the mouth, it has very fine, polished tannins that provide structure and finesse at the same time.</p>

The indigenous varieties such as Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca and Tinta Roriz, for the reds and Gouveio, Rabigato and Viosinho for white, allow them to achieve all the personality and character of the terroirs of the Douro. Combining cutting-edge winemaking with the traditional foot treading in granite mills (lagares), the aim is to produce wines with excellent value money with recognized quality worldwide, international profile and the nature of their homeland. The excellence of the wine culture, the use of traditional varieties, as well as the structural conditions of the region and the human project, has constituted the secret of success. The Douro is actually unique, singular. The wines deserve attention from critics regarding the quality and sales, both domestically and in export markets, have increased. <p></p><p>It all began in 1918 when on 15 August, a few months before the Armistice, Manoel Domingues Poças Júnior, born in the heart of the Port Wine hustle and bustle, decided to establish his own company.<br />With his uncle, he created a company to sell grape spirits to large Port Wine shippers. Soon afterwards he opened the head offices in Vila Nova de Gaia, where they remain to this date.<br />Today, with three quintas in the best winemaking areas of the Douro Demarcated Region, Poças ensures its total control over the quality of its wines and the family is more involved than ever before</p>
