<p>Casa Ferreirinha and its wines have long stood for quality, patience and skill. That story began in the eighteenth century with Bernardo Ferreira and was shaped further by his descendants, above all Dona Antónia Adelaide Ferreira, known as Ferreirinha. What the label won’t tell you is that this long family continuity matters because experience in the Douro is what turns powerful fruit into measured, graceful wine.</p><p>Created in 1952, Barca Velha expresses Casa Ferreirinha’s finest winemaking philosophy. It is made from Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz and Alicante Bouschet, each chosen for a clear reason. Touriga Nacional brings perfume and structure. Touriga Franca adds elegance. Tinta Roriz gives firmness and savoury detail. Alicante Bouschet deepens the colour and broadens the palate. In the glass, this means dark fruit, layered spice and a long finish carried by polished strength.</p><p>Casa Ferreirinha’s commitment to quality shows in every vintage. Extended ageing in Portuguese and French oak softens the tannins and builds quiet complexity, so the wine feels commanding but never hard. The region does this because Douro fruit has the concentration to absorb oak slowly, gaining harmony rather than heaviness. Where this really shines is in the cellar, where time brings greater nuance, silkier texture and remarkable longevity.</p><p>Pair this when the food is rich and deeply savoury. <p></p> <p>Vinha da Migalha by Palato do Coa White Wine comes from an old vineyard and is aged for five years in the barrel and one year in the bottle before being commercialised. It's golden in colour, the aroma is ripe and evolved, with resins and very ripe fruit but with controlled oxidation. Surprising on the palate, with acidity giving it good freshness, it's a full white with lots of texture</p>

<p></p><p>Quinta do Javali Reserva Red Wine presents deep red colour. Nose dominated by notes of ripe red fruit with some hints of strawberry jam and raspberry, combined with nuances of spice. So well integrated, there are notes of toasted barrels of high quality, giving a greedy character to wine, with aromas of vanilla and brioche. In the mouth, it confirms the fruity aromas in harmony with this structure but elegant.</p>

This arose from the joining of small plots of land, mostly old vines, inherited from ancestors for whom the cultivation of vines was of little secret, as they had always done it. <p></p><p>In 1993, João Nicolau de Almeida identified an extraordinary place for the production of wine. Apparently it was an improbable site, being literally a lot of shale, of very difficult plantation. He began to buy land, little by little, with considerable difficulty considering that they were small parcels belonging to a multitude of owners. It took a job worthy of an investigator to identify them until he was able to form the current Quinta do Monte Xisto</p>

<p></p><p>H.O Matrona is a rosé of great class. The nose is very complete and harmonious with nuances of fresh red fruit, white flowers and well-integrated wood spices reminiscent of white pepper. On the palate, it is very enveloping with a great sense of unctuousness combined with a marked acidity, showing a slight sense of saltiness and a lot of persistence on the palate.</p>
