Exposure to the north is one of the key points, favoring a slow maturation of grapes: the altitude offers warm temperatures, the river breeze cools the vineyards at night. The average slope of 80% prevents mechanization, requiring an </span><span>"heroic" viticulture</span><span>. All work is manual, a </span><span>century-old heritage</span><span> that we want to keep, in respect for the age of the vines and the quality of the grapes. The low yields are inherent to this type of vines, without irrigation, in low fertility and a slightly acid pH schist soils.</span></p>

<p></p><p>The Quinta Pedra da Cancela is the fruit of the passion for the wine of the Gouveia family. The winemaking operation has been a family activity for several generations, in the beginning they were delivering their grapes at the Adega Cooperativa. In 1999, with the end of the superior studies in Viticulture and Enology of João Paulo Gouveia, son of João Coelho Gouveia, they decide to create their own wine. The vineyards were restructured, others were acquired and a modern wine cellar was built and with a high technology, all respecting the culture of the Dão demarcated region. On the palate, Baga wines are generally characterized by their high acidity and firm, well-structured tannins, leading to a long, persistent finish.
