List of products by brand Quinta do Infantado
The Port of Quinta do Infantado wines are produced, aged and bottled in the farm, located on the north bank of the Douro, near Pinhão, in the Gontelho sub-region, long known for the excellence of its vineyards.
In the late nineteenth century, the FIFTH OF THE INFANTADO was bought by João Lopes Roseira, ancestor of the current administrators.
Since the purchase of the estate, the Roseira family has progressively increased the vineyard area and has specialized in the production and aging of Fine Wines. Over the years, varying amounts of the best crops were selected for aging on the Quinta, with the remainder being sold from Vila Nova de Gaia.
In the early 1970s, exporters began buying grapes instead of wines, manufacturing the Ports at their major winemaking centers. All Gontelho producers abandoned winemaking, selling the grapes, with the exception of Quinta do Infantado.
In 1979, the first Port Wine of the Quinta began to be sold, renewing a very old tradition, lost more than 50 years ago. It was, in fact, a new step in the long history of Quinta do Infantado and the end of the exporter monopoly in the port wine trade.
All vineyards of the property are officially class A, the best existing classification in the demarcated region of the Douro. The farm has 23 hectares of vineyard with an average age of 20 years and 20 hectares excerpted in more recent years.
Quinta do Infantado, like other small producers of Gontelho, perfected traditional winemaking techniques and, taking advantage of the excellent grapes produced there, created the highest quality natural Port wines.
