The company was founded in 1926 by Messias Baptista, who maintained the company's management until 1973.

The Administration of the Messiah Caves is still today, assured by the descendants of the Messiah family.
Since the foundation Messias has produced and commercialized wines from the main regions marked: Dão, Bairrada, Douro, Vinho Verde, Beiras and Port Wine. The company is also recognized for the high quality of its Natural Sparkling wines and Spirits.
The headquarters of MESSIAS is located in Mealhada, a small town in the Bairrada region, where the company has more than 6,000 square meters of facilities and approximately 160 hectares of vineyards, 70 hectares of which are destined to produce the prestigious Quinta do Valdoeiro wines.
In Ferradosa, in the Douro valley, MESSIAS has 200 hectares and 130 hectares are occupied with vines, for the production of Port Wine and Douro Vinho do Cachão. Facilities are located here, with more than 5,000 square meters for the manufacture, storage and aging wines.
Port Wine is bottled in Vila Nova de Gaia in an area of ​​approximately 10,000 square meters. A subsidiary and export monitoring sector is located here.
Within the investment policy in the area of ​​production, Messias acquired, in 2000, 4 properties with vineyards in the Dão region.
These acquisitions will in the short and medium term allow the self-sufficiency of wines from that region, with the desired quality levels, namely with the selection of grapes from their own farms, and is also planned, the construction of a cellar equipped with the most evolved techniques.
In 2001, as part of the company's expansion plan, the wines from the Setúbal Peninsula began to be sold.
In its vineyards Messias tested Portuguese grape varieties and based on new technologies of winemaking, selected those that produce high-quality personalized wines. Due to good production planning and marketing strategy, Messias is one of the few groups that has a complete range of wine products from the best Portuguese regions and its own Quintas.The most demanding foreign markets have already recognized the quality of Messias products, since 65% of its production is exported to the five continents.
