Vallegre - Vinhos do Porto S.A. is a portuguese company with centuries old tradition which has embraced the continuity of a family business for five generations deeply rooted in the Douro region

Adega Cooperativa de Vidigueira, Cuba e Alvito was founded in 1960, but its chronology goes far beyond its almost 60 years of existence. Its roots are intertwined with the history of the village itself, and with Vasco da Gama - the Count of Vidigueira, to whom D. Jaime, Duke of Bragança gave the village in 1519. Thus arose the first connections of Vidigueira with the family of Gama.

Based on the effort and dream of most of the wine growers in the regions of Vidigueira, Cuba and Alvito, this winery, one of the oldest in Portugal, is today a modern and visionary SME. In the winery's viticultural patrimony are discovered native grape varieties, perfected from generation to generation, among which stands out the Antão Vaz grape variety. This caste legitimated as the caste of Vidigueira and muse inspiring the Winery, gives rise to an exceptional white wine whose notoriety is worth the title of "O Branco do Alentejo"

Since 1751 Ferreira name has always been synonymous with high-quality Portuguese wine. The brand's history is intertwined with the history of the evolution of the Douro Region (demarcated in 1756) and its Porto and table wines (Douro DOC).

Dona Antonia, endowed with exceptional energy and a rare commercial talent gave great impetus to wine-growing in Douro and was well-known for her acts of social welfare in the region. Her intelligence and kindness earned her the warm admiration of her contemporaries, who affectionately nicknamed her "Ferreirinha" (little Ferreira).
Today, more than 250 years later, Ferreira is "the Portuguese brand", the benchmark in excellent quality Porto and Douro wine as "Porto Ferreira", "Barca Vellha" "Reserva Especial", "Callabriga", "Quinta da Leda" and "Antónia Adelaide Ferreira", the symbol of a country and a culture it proudly honours.

The story of Dow’s is unusual amongst all the great Port houses. It began in 1798 when Bruno da Silva, a Portuguese merchant from Oporto, made a journey which was the opposite to that of the first British merchants. The Port shipping business was continued by Bruno’s son, John da Silva who in 1862 brought into partnership Frederick William Cosens. With the continuing expansion of the firm, Edward da Silva and Frederick Cosens were joined by George Acheson Warre, whose well known family had been involved in the Port trade since its earliest years. In 1877, Silva & Cosens merged with another leading Port company, Dow & Co.

Although smaller than Silva & Cosens, Dow & Co had become a very highly regarded Port producer with a particularly fine reputation for its Vintage Ports and when the two companies merged, it was decided to adopt DOW’S as the brand name

For over two centuries the name of DOW has been associated with the finest Port from the vineyards of the Upper Douro Valley. Throughout the 20th Century and into the 21st, the Symington family has built on the legacy of the preceding Silva and Dow families.

Dow’s attractive and distinctive drier finish is the recognisable hallmark of the wines from this great Port house.

Casa Agricola de Compostela has, in the production of Vinho Verde, its strategic orientation since the beginning of its foundation. The praise from the wine community, rises from the many awards achieved, stimulating a new course from the 40 hectares of vineyards. At that time, apart from varieties that were traditionally cultivated – Loureiro, Trajadura and Arinto, new varieties were introduced such as Alvarinho, Sauvignon and Fernão Pires

Herédias 10 Years Old Port Wine shows a complex aroma, this wine shows notes of apricot, walnuts and honey. On the palate, the flavours unfold in a distinctive way, maintaining a balance between sweetness and freshness, with a very long finish.

Kranemann Ruby Port Wine vivid and deep color with a good aromatic intensity at the same time showing the freshness of red fruits and the youthfulness one looks for in this type of wine; full wine in its palate, but soft in its tannins and good concentration of fruit giving it a rich and prolonged finish. (Tasted on May 28, 2019)

Colheitas are dated Tawnies aged in small casks. The minimum age requirement is 7 years, but the tradition at Niepoort is to age several more years before bottling. The wine takes on a Tawny hue. Wood and nutty tones are evident on the palate due to the wine’s slow ageing in old casks. Colheita goes well with dry fruits desserts and the portuguese "Leite Creme queimado". As a starter, the combination with foie gras is impressive

Lot of grapes and wines from the noblest red varieties of the Douro, such as Touriga Nacional, Tinta Roriz, Touriga Francesa, Tinta Barroca and many others from older vines.

Deep chestnut brown at the centre gradually fading to amber and a narrow edge of pale straw at the rim. All its complex elements working together in harmony. The nose is intense but finely constituted and the aromas remarkably delicate and ethereal given its great age. Hints of vanilla, cedar wood and cinnamon provide a subtle spicy redolence. On the palate the wine has a light touch displaying bright acidity and perfect balance but holds massive reserves of aroma which emerge on the long finish in a seemingly endless mellow surge. Very few Ports retain such balance and finesse after so many years maturing in cask.

Taylor Fladgate VVOP is bets served after a meal, slowly treasured as a desert in its own right.
