<p></p><p>The Quinta do Côtto, in Cidadelhe, relatively close to the Régua, is a property of 75 hectares of vineyard and a plot built in the eighteenth century. The owners of the farm, the Montez Champalimaud family, exclusively produced Port wine until the beginning of the 20th century. In 1980 Miguel Champalimaud launched the first Quinta do Côtto Grande Escolha, consolidating the concept of Douro's quinta wines, which are still rare in the region.<br />The Quinta do Côtto brand has grown greatly in notoriety since then, until it became one of the most classic and prestigious references in the Douro region</p>

<p>Casa Ferreirinha and its wines have long stood for quality, patience and skill. That story began in the eighteenth century with Bernardo Ferreira and was shaped further by his descendants, above all Dona Antónia Adelaide Ferreira, known as Ferreirinha. What the label won’t tell you is that this long family continuity matters because experience in the Douro is what turns powerful fruit into measured, graceful wine.</p><p>Created in 1952, Barca Velha expresses Casa Ferreirinha’s finest winemaking philosophy. It is made from Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz and Alicante Bouschet, each chosen for a clear reason. Touriga Nacional brings perfume and structure. Touriga Franca adds elegance. Tinta Roriz gives firmness and savoury detail. Alicante Bouschet deepens the colour and broadens the palate. In the glass, this means dark fruit, layered spice and a long finish carried by polished strength.</p><p>Casa Ferreirinha’s commitment to quality shows in every vintage. Extended ageing in Portuguese and French oak softens the tannins and builds quiet complexity, so the wine feels commanding but never hard. The region does this because Douro fruit has the concentration to absorb oak slowly, gaining harmony rather than heaviness. Where this really shines is in the cellar, where time brings greater nuance, silkier texture and remarkable longevity.</p><p>Pair this when the food is rich and deeply savoury. Aged cheeses, roast game and beef all suit its structure, because the wine holds its shape without overwhelming the plate.
