<p></p> <p>Tinta Negra grape variety is part of the ancient spirit of Madeira Island and is still the basis for the wines that have made the island famous. Outside Madeira Island, it is a rare grape variety that can only be found in regions where the sea is close by, taking on another name such as Molar in Colares, where it is practically extinct, Saborinho in the Azores, which is in the process of recovery, and the Canaries, where it takes on the name of TintaBastardo where it has very little expression.Not to be confused with Bastardo (aka Trosseau), its half-sister.</p>

<p>In the glass, Cossart Gordon Malvasia Colheita 2008 displays a coppery-gold colour with golden nuances and brilliant clarity. The aroma is intensely characteristic: tea and marmalade, candied fruit and dried fruits such as nuts and hazelnuts. On the palate, the wine is soft, sweet and enveloping, with fresh acidity that supports its long retronasal finish evoking fruit cake, honey and brandy. Best served after dessert or savoured slowly on its own, this Madeira rewards patience and pairs wonderfully with rich, sweet treats</p>

<p>In the glass, Cossart Gordon Terrantez Vintage 1975 displays a clear, brilliant copper-brown colour with golden tinges and subtle green reflections. On the nose the wine is deeply complex: spices like black pepper, exotic woods, smoked nutshell and resin, along with macerated dried fruits in rum. The palate starts soft and sweet but then “explodes” into a long, fresh aftertaste full of spicy notes. The finish is vivid and almost salivating, inviting another taste – a masterful balance of intensity, sweetness, and acidity.</p> <p></p>
