António Maçanita, Filipe Rocha and Ínsua Vinus Lda. are the founders of Azores Wine Company. This company was born from their passion for the Azores archipelago and their desire to make known the wines that are produced here - "unique wines, full of identity, pure, fresh, challenging and with a touch of salt".
The Azores Wine Company is recovering several hectares of vineyards on Pico Island with the intention of becoming, soon, the largest private wine producer.
Besides the vineyards already owned by this producer, it relies on minimalist oenology, i.e. wine produced with the least intervention possible.
Oenology is simply a vector in the transport of the island's unique characteristics to wine, resisting the temptation to do better, different or original - proximity to the sea, soils in volcanic rocks, Atlantic climate and the unique exclusive grape varieties (Arinto and Verdelho dos Açores and Terrantez do Pico).
