Proibido Garrafeira is a limited-edition red wine from the Douro Superior, crafted by Márcio Lopes. It is recognized for its elegant and profound character, and its lengthy aging in barrels, which has led to high praise from international critics. The wine's origins and vineyards are situated in the Douro Superior region. The color of this wine ranges from garnet to an intense and deep ruby. Its aroma is marked by ripe black fruit, dark fruits such as plum and blackberry, touches of spice, nuances of moss, and cigar box, with hints of toasted wood. On the palate, it is full-bodied with firm and well-integrated tannins, balanced, with a long and persistent finish. It is suitable for aging up to 15 years or more.
"Proibido", a distinguished wine, traces its roots to the Old Vines aged between 40 and 80 years, originating from Vila Nova de Foz Côa. The grapes are grown in small parcels of land facing either north or east, situated between the altitudes of 250m and 500m. Each step of the cultivation process is meticulously carried out by hand, without the use of any herbicides or pesticides. In 2017, this meticulous process culminated in a wine that perfectly married an abundance of aroma and flavor, producing a wine with a remarkable aging potential.
