Located south of Lisbon, in the municipality of Alcácer do Sal, parish of Torrão, in front of the village of São Romão.
Crossed by the river Sado, the region is characterized by hot and dry summers and mild and rainy winters. The temperate Mediterranean climate also reflects the proximity of the sea.
Herdade do Portocarro is an integral part of the demarcated region of the Setúbal Peninsula. It is made up of a rice paddy, next to the Sado, where rice is produced with its own brand - Loverice - and a zone of slopes, where the 15 hectares of vineyard are found.
The name of the Estate is inspired first by the existence of a high point, formerly called "car", located in the highest place of the region. Secondly, because of the small pier that marks the landscape for many centuries, since the time when transport was mainly done by waterway.
From the beginning, the Herdade do Portocarro produces deeply original wines. Its first wines - Herdade do Portocarro, Anima and Cavalo Maluco - immediately positioned themselves at the highest level of national production.
The project focuses on a philosophy of producing high quality wines in limited and exclusive quantities. Wines that impress and enchant, providing unique moments to the most demanding lovers.
