When the company first started, wines were produced and sold wholesale and unbranded. It was the current management that decided to take on the challenge that is involved in creating an own brand wine. 1997 was the year of the company's new beginning in wine making, with red wine "Terras do Po tinto", being the first to be produced and bottled on the premises of the Ermelinda Freitas winery</p>

<p></p><p>Quinta da Pacheca is one of the best known estates in the Douro region and also one of the first properties to bottle wine under its own label. It is first mentioned in a document dated April 1738 but it was only in 1903, when Dom José Freire de Serpa Pimentel decided to develop his interest in oenology, began to seriously dedicate himself to the risky business of winemaking. <p></p><p>For more than three centuries, the Paço do Conde Estate has been owned by the Castelo Branco family. The origin of one of the oldest agricultural enterprises in the country, founded in 1928 under the name Sociedade Agrícola Paço do Conde, is now managed by the current owners, José António Ferrão Castelo Branco, Luís Miguel Ferrão Castelo Branco and Maria Luísa Castelo Branco Schmidt, grandchildren of the founder.</p>
