Compania a fost înființată în 1926 de domnul Messias Baptista, care a servit ca președinte până în 1973. Managementul este încă deținut de descendenții familiei Messias. De la înființare Messias a produs și vând vinuri de înaltă calitate din regiunile principale demarcate: Bairrada, Douro, DÃO, Vinho Verde, Beiras și Vinho fac Porto.
