Inóspito Vinhas Velhas (Shale) is a distinctive Douro white wine, crafted from a single vineyard planted in 1915 and home to over 35 indigenous grape varieties, including Malvasia, Rabigato, Gouveio, Códega do Larinho, and Síria. Grown at 300 meters altitude on schist soils near the Tua River, the vineyard’s northeast exposure preserves freshness and acidity. Fermentation is spontaneous with native yeasts, occurring in both new and used French oak barrels (Bertrange forest), with no additives or corrections — allowing the pure essence of terroir to shine through.
Inóspito Vinhas Velhas (Shale) White Wine is elegant and finely textured, offering a bright citrine color and aromas of white peach, citrus blossom, and subtle mineral undertones. On the palate, it is fresh and precise, with a lively acidity, notes of orchard fruit, a touch of saline minerality, and a long, balanced finish. With 12.5% alcohol and only 6,130 bottles produced, this wine delivers complexity and authenticity — a true expression of an ancient Douro vineyard
