John Blandy, the founder of Blandy’s arrived in Madeira in 1808. In 1811 he founded his own business as a wine shipper and general trader, with brothers Thomas and George, and started to set the foundation for the family and the island itself with the production of the most famous and unique wine in the world – Madeira wine

- Clear, topaz colour with golden green highlights. Characteristic Madeira bouquet, with dried fruits, toffee, wood and spices. Medium sweet with a clean and sharp acidity. Long aftertaste with notes of spices

- The wine was regularly racked and when it reached the desired stage of maturity it was bottled
- Ageing
- 21 years in seasoned American oak casks in the traditional ‘Canteiro’ system, whereby the casks were gradually transferred from the top floors of the lodge to the middle floors and eventually to the ground floor
