Quinta do Vallado, built in 1716, is one of the oldest and most famous Quintas in the Douro Valley.

He belonged to the legendary Dona Antónia Adelaide Ferreira and remains to this day in the possession of his descendants. It is located on the banks of the River Corgo, a tributary of the Douro River, right next to the mouth, near the town of Peso da Régua.
For about 200 years Quinta do Vallado's main activity was the production of Port wines, later marketed by Casa Ferreira (which belonged to the Family).
After Dona Antónia Adelaide Ferreira, it was her great-grandson Jorge Viterbo Ferreira and trisneto Jorge Cabral Ferreira who were responsible for the Quinta's great development and growth.
With the centuries-old tradition of selling his production to the Ferreira house, it was in 1993, under the direction of Guilherme Álvares Ribeiro and his wife Maria Antónia Ferreira, that the company decided to extend its activity to the production, bottling and commercialization of branded wines own.
It was that same year, and under the guidance of Prof. Nuno Magalhães, who began a deep restructuring of the vineyards, having as primary objectives the production of high quality grape varieties, and the use of planting and conduction systems that allowed a better vegetative development.
The new vineyards were planted in clearly defined areas, breaking with the tradition of mixing different varieties on the same plot.
By homogenizing treatment, maturation and picking times, the improvement of process efficiency is evident, resulting in a much more consistent, controllable and economically more efficient production.
Another determining factor in the new methods is the general analysis to the production, which allows the elimination, in green, of the bunches considered surplus of some varieties, contributing to the enrichment of the quality of the remaining production.
Today, with 50 hectares of vineyard aged between 11 and 18 years old, compensated by 20 ha of the best vineyards over 80 years old, Quinta do Vallado and its managers, João Ferreira Álvares Ribeiro, Francisco Ferreira (responsible for the management agricultural) and Francisco Olazabal (oenologist), all Tetranetos of Dona Antónia, have already reached a very high level, recognized by several national and international bodies.
The new wine cellar and barrel cellar, whose construction began in 2008, and completed at the end of 2009, combines the most advanced technology with a high quality architecture, which makes it one of the places to visit in the Douro Valley.
